Green Libraries Week 2025: Monday 27 October – Sunday 2 November 2025
Green Libraries Week showcases of the very best that libraries have to offer, where they explore and celebrate inventive and inspiring activities engaging with local communities and the media to highlight the diverse ways that they are working with users to build skills and confidence at every stage of their lives.
Last year, Kingston Library users borrowed 655,760 books. By borrowing books, you've saved an estimated:
459032.0 kg CO₂e
That's the same as taking a car off the road for 1147580.0 miles- so keep on borrowing to save the environment!
Events:
Repair Cafe
The Repair Café is next on 1 November, and is hosted on the first Saturday morning of every month, from 10.30am to 1.00pm in Kingston Library's community room.
Finger Knitting
Join us for a fun, eco-friendly session on Friday 31 October at Kingston Library, 2--3pm where children will learn to turn old t-shirts into yarn and create their own finger-knitted pieces. No experience needed. Just bring your enthusiasm and creativity! Don't forget to bring your old T-shirt to create the magic. Booking required.
How can you further reduce your carbon footprint by using Kingston libraries?
Join the Friends of Tudor Drive Library!
Tudor Mindful Garden Project
Tudor Library Friends are dedicated to enriching our community through engaging events and informative talks, supporting our Tudor Drive Library through gardening projects and improving the facilities and access. Our passionate volunteers work wholeheartedly to create a space where the community comes together, transforming the outside area around Tudor Drive Library into a user-friendly, vibrant garden and growing space for the local community.
Rewilding Rangers
Rewilding Rangers is a fun, hands-on programme at Tolworth Community Library that inspires children aged 6–11 to explore, discover, and care for their local environment. Since launching in 2022, it has grown to include creative workshops, field trips, wildlife observation, and seasonal planting activities. In partnership with the WildTolworth initiative at Tolworth Court Farm, the library displays children’s artwork of local species and, very soon, images from wildlife cameras.
The group meets monthly, though it is currently full. Rewilding Rangers sparks curiosity, creativity, and community spirit, empowering young people to protect biodiversity and shape a greener future.
Use the space:
Instead of staying at home with lights, heating, or air conditioning running, consider using the library’s facilities and reduce your personal energy consumption.
Online resources
We offer eBooks, audiobooks, newspapers and online databases. Accessing these resources digitally eliminates the need for physical materials, reducing both printing and transportation emissions. For instance, you can access a curated collection of e-books with a focus on the climate and sustainability on Libby/Overdrive
Instead of buying physical newspapers, use PressReader for free with your library card and read newspapers and magazines online. This reduces paper waste and the environmental impact of newspaper production and distribution.
