The Reading Retreat, free shared reading sessions for adults

The Reading Retreat is a free, weekly Shared Reading session led by a trained volunteer. Small groups meet weekly to discuss a piece of writing that is read aloud by the volunteer Reader Leader at the start of the session. Volunteers have been trained by The Reader.

The reading may be an article, book extract, short story or poem. There is no reading to do beforehand, so you can just arrive at a session and join in the discussion or listen to others discussing, as you wish. Sessions are free and held weekly but you don't have to attend every week as each session is separate. Everyone is welcome to come along and give it a try!

Session Schedule:

  • Mondays at Kingston Library, 11am - 12 noon
  • Tuesdays at Alfriston Day Centre in Surbiton, 10.30-11.30am
  • Wednesdays at Tolworth Library, 2.30-3.30pm
  • Thursdays at Surbiton Library, 10.30-11.30am
  • Thursdays at New Malden Library, 11.30-12.30pm (on summer break, restarts 21 September)

Please check with the library or email libraries@kingston.gov.uk before making a special journey to attend. All sessions are run by volunteers and may break for the holidays.
